The Reception year marks most children’s very first step into formal schooling. This can be an exciting—and sometimes nerve-wracking—time for children and parents alike! At Rimrose Hope, we ensure your child’s transition is smooth, supportive, and full of opportunities to explore, discover, and grow.
Children in Reception begin learning through play. They will be busy exploring, listening to stories, engaging with their environment, and developing the focus and skills needed for classroom learning. Our team is here to support both you and your child every step of the way, providing guidance and resources to give your child the very best start to school life. If you need any further support, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Children begin Reception in the September following their 4th birthday. Our Reception provision includes two vibrant classrooms and an exciting outdoor space designed to inspire curiosity and learning. Play is at the heart of our curriculum, and we use children’s natural desire to explore and learn to shape every day. We celebrate the Characteristics of Effective Learning that children demonstrate and use these observations to plan the next steps in their learning journey.
To support your child’s learning from the very start, all Reception children complete the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) during the first half-term. This is a short, teacher-led assessment that helps us understand your child’s starting points in communication, language, literacy, and mathematics. The results guide our planning to ensure each child receives the support and challenges they need to make strong progress throughout the year.
Reception children can now attend our Government Free Breakfast Club from 8:15am, providing a healthy start to the school day.
For families who need an earlier start, our Breakfast Club is also available from 7:45am. After school, children can attend our After School Club, managed by Fun4Kids, which runs from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
