Spring Term 2015

Happy New Year and welcome to the new term!
This term in Rose Class we are going to be finding out all about People Who Help Us. We are also doing topic work about Winter, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Spring and Easter.
The SEAL themes for this term are "Going for goals" and "Good to be me!" The themes for RE are Special Places and Easter. We are also looking at the Christian Values of Wisdom and Endurance. The children do SEAL work and special art work with Mrs Johnson.
Every morning the children "sign in" with their names and enjoy book time with staff to develop a love of reading.
Mr Keating's group are continuing with "Read Write Inc" work for literacy, and in maths are finding out about Time. Mr Keating's group are also doing Science about Sound with Mrs Johnson.
We are hoping to go on visits to The Key Park and to Jake's World.
On Wednesday the children have a music lesson with Mrs Payett and they also do music throughout the week including Kindermusik.
Mrs Hennessy's group do Jolly Phonics and Mr Keating's group do Lexia to help develop reading skills. All the children continue to use Numicon in maths.
Every Thursday the children do cookery, and Friday is PE with MJ so please make sure the children have a PE kit on that day. Some of the children join in with Boyzone and Girls Club activities on Friday.
The children love our outdoor area where they can develop play and social skills.
Our circle times are very important, providing the opportunity for speaking and listening, and the development of social skills.
The children enjoy toast every morning and conversation is encouraged around the table.
We aim to provide a nurturing, caring environment in Rose Class to enable the children to develop fully. Rewards and praise are very important in Rose Class and every day a child is chosen as "Star of the day!" and points given on E Praise with a winner each week.
The children are doing lots of 1:1 work with Mrs Hennessy and Mr Keating, focusing on their individual targets and programes, to help them make progress.
Please continue to share books with the children at home and hear them read. This really does make a difference! Also make sure you check your child's home school diary and book bag for information and letters.
Thank you for all your support.
Mrs Hennessy and staff.

We will also be going horse riding, doing PE, Kindermusik, cookery and having fun learning and playing outdoors. We are looking forward to our trip to Chinatown and the New Star restaurant!

An important part of the day in Rose Class is our breakfast and nurture time when staff and children can share conversation and books around the table and on the sofa.
Please continue to share books and read at home with the children.
There are lots of photos in the gallery and the children love to look at them and remember all they have done at school. Photographs are a great starting point for conversation, which in turn helps the children's development.

Autumn 2013

Hello everyone,

A special welcome to all the new children in Rose class this year!
We have made lots of new friends and enjoyed playing together.

This term we are learning all about Ourselves, Autumn, Diwali,  "The Gruffalo" story and Christmas.
We had a great day out at The Key Park and enjoyed our picnic lunch. We collected lots of leaves and pine cones for our Autumn display.

We have also been horse riding, been for walks to the canal and done lots of PE with MJ. The children really enjoy "Kindermusik" and music with Mrs Payett when they can play instruments and sing.

We are very excited about our special visit to Jakes Sensory World in December for a Christmas party and meeting Father Christmas! We are also going to have fun in the sensory room and soft play area!

Summer Term 2013

In Mrs Hennessy's class we are finding out all about Transport, Travel and Journeys. The children and staff absolutely love our class Travel Agents and we have all booked lots of holidays! The children have even made their own passports ready to go!
We are also finding out about Summer, Gardening and Growing.
We hope to spend lots of time learning outdoors and enjoying the warmer weather. Some of the seeds and bulbs we have planted are starting to grow and we are remembering to water them regularly.
We are looking forward to our trips out to Chester Zoo, The Key Park and a tour around Liverpool on The Duck Bus!

In Mrs Stanford's Class, we are continuing to work on our Lexia and Read Write Inc... programmes in Literacy.  In Numeracy we are focusing on counting, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, shape, fractions, time and data handling. In Science we are currently studying electricity and have had great fun making circuits.  After half term we will be starting our new topic of Health & Growth. As part of our Art topic we are going to be looking at art from different cultures and this will involve a visit to the Liverpool World Museum to get a closer look at some of the artefacts they have on display. As part of our PE programme, we will be spending one afternoon per week down at the Crosby Lakeside Activity Centre, the children will have the opportunity to take part in bell boating, canoeing, kayaking, raft building and paddle-boarding! Full details on this to follow shortly.

Unfortunately we have not been able to go horse riding recently, due to the horses being unwell, but we have just been informed, that we can start riding again after half term, which is great news.
The children from both classes love the new Kindermusik programme we are following. It involves singing, dancing, playing instruments and stories and is excellent for developing skills in many areas.
Our SEAL topics for this term are "Relationships" and "Changes".
At home, please continue to share a book with your child regularly, and don't forget to use the home school diaries.
Remember to look in the gallery for photos!

Thank you
