Design & Technology
This week we have started to look at healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. We have been set the challenge of designing and making a meat-free pasta salad. This afternoon we tasted existing pasta salads available to buy from the shops and using a think chart evaluated our thoughts on the products. We considered the pasta shape, the sauce, vegetables and other ingredients used and how we rated the taste!
This week we were learning all about the 'plastic crisis' and the terrible state of our oceans. We were challenged to collect plastics and give them a second chance. We created a piece of art work in order to bring awareness to the crisis and to get people thinking about their plastic usage. The children were very passionate about this message and were very proud of the artwork they produced to help pass on the message.
Art - Van Gogh Painting
This afternoon the children were introduced to the artist Vincent van Gogh. They were asked to talk about the techniques and weather that his work portrays. The children then used paints and a selection of brushes to create a response using warm tones and finer details.
English - Drama
This morning we talked about the emotions that the characters would be experiencing at key events in The Enormous Turnip. We then worked in groups to act out the different scenes ensuring to demonstrate these emotions.
PE - Dance
This half term we are learning a winter themed dance in our PE lessons. The theme of winter weather is linked to our geography and art topics.
During this half term the children are learning about Weather and Seasons. This afternoon they were immersed in weather related activities. These included trying and sort different types of clothes, finding hot and cold places on a world map, drawing extreme weathers and matching weather types to the 4 seasons.
